Tottenism Tuesday: Catch Them Doing Good
Whether you are a parent, a teacher or a coach, this is something you should live by. Too often, we are looking for our kids, our students or our athletes to mess up. It just seems like they are always messing up, right? Well, if all you see and acknowledge are the mess ups, then they will continue to identify with what they are hearing and that cycle will very likely continue. Try more of “catching them doing good”! Positive reinforcement for a job well done or a task accomplished goes a long way in their development. Of course, they are going to mess up, but if that is all you are looking for, then, guess what, that is what you will see. On the other hand, if you are looking for the good stuff they are doing and acknowledge that, they are on the way to even bigger and better things.
