Tottenism Tuesday: The Power of Discipline and Spirit

A good friend of mine, Jeff Connors is one of the best strength and conditioning coaches around, having been head strength coach for East Carolina University and University of North Carolina and produced quality athletes but, more importantly, quality men. He wrote a book called “Strength Coach, A Call to Serve” and this quote comes from that book. Although it is the Marine Corps Drill Instructors’ creed, the principles behind it can easily apply to the athlete/coach relationship in your own situation:

“These recruits are entrusted to my care.
I will train them to the best of my ability.
I will develop them into smartly disciplined, physically fit, basically trained Marines, thoroughly indoctrinated, in love of the Corps and the country.
I will demand of them, and demonstrate by my own example, the highest standards of personal conduct, morality, and professional skill.”
